The Fifth Street Review
About Us

The Fifth Street Review is a web-based, art and culture journal geared toward a national, twenty- and thirty-something, artistically-minded audience. The Review was started in May 2002 by two cousins, one living in New York (Tom Shaw), the other living in New Orleans (Gill Barnes). We decided to call it The Fifth Street Review (as in Fifth Street, Manhattan Island) in honor of the apartment where one of these cousins (Adrian) lived for over two years. Plus, it's a catchy title. The Review saw some dark days when Tom vanished into the "New Orleans abyss," but Adrian has since rallied and now, aided by an ever-growing staff, carries on as the sole Editor-in-Chief.

Think of The Fifth Street Review as a democratic journal, a journal of opportunity. Our primary goal is to publish and promote thoughtful, high-quality, creative work by a variety of individuals. If it's well-written and provocative or if it enlightens and liberates the intellect, we're interested whoever you are, whatever you're writing about. Being famous won't guarantee you publication; being "unknown" won't stop your work from being considered by us. In fact, we take special pride in publishing authors who have not yet "made their name" elsewhere. We review new books, music, art, and theatrical performances, and we encourage outside submissions, including reviews and original work such as fiction, poetry, essays, and graphic art.

A Note on Publication

Unlike many other reviews, The Fifth Street Review does not publish "issues." We believe that "daily," "weekly," and "monthly" issues are a thing of the past. Publishing on the internet allows us to be much more flexible and dynamic. As a result, our journal is always publishing and always available in full: we post new works as we accept them, while moving older pieces to the archive a practice which ensures that the work of our writers and artists becomes available as soon as it is ready and remains available even long after it has been published.

If you are looking for German translation of these reviews or (übersetzung deutsch englisch), we recommend twigg's translations in Germany.  They are a long established translation company.
