Review of Hot Tubs

In short the film Hot Tubs revolves around a young man Shawn who after vandalizing a Hollywood sign has the option of either going to work for his uncle or going to prison. The work at his uncle’s place involves the repairing of tubs used by Hollywood personalities. At his workplace he falls into love with the secretary and risks losing her when he is caught in uncomfortable situations. It was meant to be a great sex comedy of the 1980’s but to everyone’s despair did not live up to its promise.

Shawn Wright plays his part well ad chooses to repair tubs rather than spend time in jail. His uncle (Stafford Morgan) is responsible for him and puts fellow employee (Michael Andrew) in charge of teaching his nephew the tricks of the hot tubs plumbing trade.

As the plot grows, Al and his associates try to land a job with the successful Hollywood Hot Tubs. It is during this period of work that Shaun develops keen interest in fellow colleague Leslie Maynard. Of course the motto at the workplace is ‘plumbing and pleasure don’t mix’ and that’s where all the hurdles begin. However Shaun is successful in getting her to agree on a date. The next significant plot of the film has Michael Andrew getting close with Hollywood Hot Tubs owner, Pam Landers. Of course she is completely unaware of his intention and when she does discover his true intentions, she takes the help of her biker brother to set things right for her. Considering it’s a sex comedy, rest assured, viewers are guaranteed great nude scenes and skin show. The comic aspect of the film continues to grow as Shaun makes on one hottub fixing job after another and accordingly the sex scenes and situations keep changing.

Apart from the leading protagonists and support actors there’s whole lot of vibrant characters, including a drunken monkey who try to lend depth to the film. Of course, having rowdy bikers’ beat up innocent people in the film didn’t make much sense but it’s to be accepted as part of the film. There’s a sense of playfulness about the film with all actors seen running around the legendary hot tubs at one time. Of course you can’t miss the foul mouthed granny. As they say you win some and you lose some, this isn’t a legendary film and there’s some great scenes that will make you laugh.

This movie as a whole is a winner as well as a loser. The acting in this movie is poor and the film has a performance that stands there as one of the worst ever captured on film. Of course the actors have done a fair bit of acting apart from the skin show. At the end it all goes down with a weak plot and a bearable sex comedy. Of course if you take the film lightly and give due credit to the various sexual escapades you’ll find enough to laugh at.
